Rescuers undeterred by harsh Siachen weather



The harsh weather do not affect the morale of soldiers searching for their companions in Siachen.
 
The weather continues to be harsh and unfriendly, posing operational and administrative difficulties for both men and machines busy in the rescue operation. The rescue operators have started working on another priority point (Sixth Site) while continuing thier rescue search to the earlier 5 identified points.

Matric exams continue amid reports of cheating



Cases of cheating have been reported in most of the examination centers in Interior Sindh. 

According to the details, the invigilators employed at different examination centers have failed to prevent students from using their cell phones. While the invigilators roamed about the examination centres, the students found no trouble in jotting down their answers using mobile phones, books, notes and other material.

Missing persons: SC orders suspension, arrest of IG



SC CJ orders to arrest IG Balochistan after suspending him over the case of law and order situation.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Supreme Court Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry dismayed at the absence of inspector general (IG) Baluchistan. 
Expressing displeasure over the absence of IG Balochistan and incomplete record of missing persons, CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the secretary establishment to initiate an inquiry against the IG Balochistan and concerned SP.

12 Pakistani, Iranian hostages rescued, 16 pirates held



12 Iranian and Pakistani hostages have been freed from custody of Somali pirates. 

Danish navy said Thursday it had stopped a pirate ship off the Somali coast and arrested 16 captors of the hostages.

Boom Boom Afridi assaults fan at airport, claims daughter was pushed.

It was a not a very happy homecoming for Shahid Afridi after Pakistan s Asia Cup triumph as he got into a scuffle with a fan at the airport, claiming that he reacted angrily only when his three-year-old daughter was pushed to the ground by eager admirers. 
"I know what I did was wrong. I should have controlled myself. But I couldn t take it when my daughter was pushed to the ground," Afridi told Dunya News.

US soldier charged over Afghan killings



The killings are believed to be the deadliest war crime by a NATO soldier.

The US soldier accused of an Afghan village massacre that further strained already-frayed Afghan-US ties was charged with 17 premeditated murders Friday, although he may not be tried for two years. 
Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, was also accused of six counts of assault and attempted murder in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province earlier this month.

7-member bench not competent to hear contempt case: Aitzaz



Aitzaz has contended the 7-member SC bench was not competent to hear contempt case.


He also argued after the article 10 A of the Constitution, contempt of court law didn’t exist.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said the court has the right to conduct contempt of court proceedings. Aitzaz further said confidence on judges was imperative for a fair trial. He observed the judges initiated the contempt proceedings and now they themselves have become plaintiff and plaintiff could not hear the case against the accused.

100s of homes damaged in Mexico earthquake



The earthquake hit hardest in border area of southern Oaxaca and Guerrero states.

A strong 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit southern Mexico on Tuesday, damaging some 800 homes near the epicenter and swaying tall buildings and spreading fear and panic hundreds of miles away in the capital of Mexico City. 
One of the strongest to shake Mexico since the deadly 1985 temblor that killed thousands in Mexico City, Tuesday s earthquake hit hardest in border area of southern Oaxaca and Guerrero states. In Guerrero, officials confirmed that some 800 homes had been damaged, with another 60 having collapsed.

WB approves $1.09b for projects in Pakistan



The World Bank's executive board approved the projects Tuesday, the development lender said.

The World Bank said Tuesday it would fund two projects totaling $1.09 billion, in energy and irrigation, aimed at supporting Pakistan s growth agenda for reducing poverty. 
The $840 million Tarbela IV Extension Hydropower Project will add power generation capacity of 1,410 megawatts, contributing a crucial source of electricity for the economic growth and development of Pakistan, the World Bank said.

Speedy bus kills 2 in Karachi



At least two people were killed in different road accidents in Malir 15 and Korangi Chamra Chorangi.

According to police, a speedy bus turned uncontrolled and ran over the passengers standing at the bus stop in Malir 15 injuring three persons. 
The injured were being shifted to Jinnah Hospital in critical condition when one of them succumbed to his injuries while another died at hospital.

Top US commander says Afghan mission on track

NEPRA increases power tariff by Rs 6.39



The NEPRA has increased power tariff by Rs 6.39 as four months fuel adjustment.

The NEPRA’s meeting to review price hike held under the chair of NEPRA vice chairman Ghiasuddin. The meeting approved hike in tariff price from October 2011 to January 2012. 
Power tariff has been increased by Rs 2.22 for October, Rs 1.27 for November, 0.94 paisa for December and Rs 1.96 per unit for January 2012.

SBP report indicates pressure on foreign exchange reserves



The SBP’s 2nd quarter report for the fiscal year 2011-12 indicates high inflation in the country.

According to the report issued by the State Bank of Pakistan on Tuesday, ‘Half way into FY12, the economy is showing signs of a modest improvement. Preliminary data indicates that the commodity producing sector, especially agriculture, is doing better than expected. Services also seem well-placed to gain from robust retail trade activities; transportation; and increased profitability of the banking sector.’
